Laminack, Committee ____ WYLIE DANIEL DEAD (From the Wedowee Star) I come before the Wedowee Star family to bring the sad tidings of the home going of Brother Wylie Daniel, son of Brother J.G. Daniel. Bro. Wylie Daniel was born August 20, 1896. He joined the Missionary Baptist church at Smyrna August 16, 1911 and departed for the home beyond January 21, 1920, being 23 years, five months and eleven days. What a staggering blow has dealt to Randolph county in the taking of this splendid young man. How strange it seems to us that a young man with such noble, moral, christian and educational qualities and in whom there were great possibilities, should be taken away in the prime of his youth. More especially when we realize how bad the church and state needs such young men. Oh, how unbearable all these things would be were it not for the fact that we know that an imnipotent, wise and loving god is on the throne of the universe and he guides the affairs of the state, church and home and that he makes all things work together for the good of those who love him. It was my privilege to be associated with young Bro. Daniel and I learned to love and appreciate him for his gentle and kind disposition and for his manly, high and noble ambition and I herewith offer my sincere sympathy to his noble father, stepmother, sisters, brothers and other relatives. Let us all, like Bro.Wylie, live close to god until our earthly task is done and meet him in the home beyond the skies. G.L. Hicks, Bowdon, Georgia, Feb 2, 1920. ____ LOCAL News In the death of Grandma Moore which occurred last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.A. She was a consecrated member of the Missionary Baptist church, her membership being at Bethel, New Hopewell. She told her family and friends while sick she was ready to go, that she could see her way clear. Sister Watts was a kind and ever cheerful wife and mother and never was heard to speak ill of anyone. She was faithful in all her duties in life and never seemed to worry. She was so good that everybody loved and honored her. She leaves a husband, C.P. MARY JANE NORTON On Sunday morning, March 7th, 1920, the spirit of Mrs. Mary Jane Norton took its flight into the Great Beyond. Her death was as peaceful as one falling asleep. Her body was buried at Antioch church, attended by a large number of her friends who had known and loved her in life. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. Boman and Skinner. She leaves behind two sons, James W. and Martin D. Norton, her other son, William J. Norton, preceded her to the grave, dying about two years ago, besides eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn for her, although her days had been long in the land which the lord god gave her. The subject of this sketch, whose maiden name was Mary Jane Nunnelly, was born in Guinnett County, Georgia on the 11th day of March 1836, dying on the 7th day of March 1920; she lacked but four days of being 84 years old. Her parents moved to Alabama while she was yet a child. When she grew up to womanhood she was married to Martin Norton, who at the beginning of the Civil War, enlisted in the service of the confederate states where he served gallantly until he was stricken with measles from which he died, leaving his wife a widow with three small boys to raise and educate. To this task she spent all of her energies. During the four years of the Civil War, the depths of her motherly love was never fathomed nor did her faith her ability to accomplish this difficult task assigned her ever fail or even falter. By her diligence and economy, she reared her three sons, giving the advantages of such rural schools as were taught in those trying days, to each of them and in so doing, gave to the country three model citizens. Her reliance was anchored in god and to her faith she added her works. She was a gentle, trusting, christian woman, having been converted at the age of 15 years. She joined the Methodist Episcopal church, South. She verified her faith in god by living a faithful and devout christian until god called her to the rest that remaineth to his people..
