CARRIE MOORE The subject of this sketch, Sister S. Carrie Moore was born in Georgia on March 23, 1833 and died in Heflin on March 5, 1920, aged 86 years, 11 months and 5 days. Sister Moore was twice married, first to a Mr. Turner who died after a few years leaving her a widow with one child to care for. This child was afterwards the wife of our fellow citizen, Mr. John Brannon who left her a widow some 20 years since, she afterward moving to Texas and has since died. Sister Moore moved to Alabama in the year 1867 and was married to one of our leading citizens, Harrison Moore. Three children blessed this union, viz: Mesdames J.C. Bean and H.A. McMurray of Heflin and J.R. Moore who died a few years ago. She professed religion at the age of 12 years; joined the M.E. Church, South and lived in its fellowship until 40 years ago when she joined the Missionary Baptist church at Old Liberty and was baptized into fellowship of this church by the sainted John A. Scott. Sister Moore was an ideal wife and mother, always faithful to her husband, her children, her church and her god. She has left behind a good example of fedelity to what she conceived to be right. She took special delight in her advising her grandchildren, always pointing them to the direction of the right. Her life was one of untiring effort along all the lines of womanhood and motherhood, as well as in the domain of religion. She belonged to what we now call the old order of things. She inquired for the old paths and walked therein and tried to get all her household to do likewise. While she is gone, she yet speaketh. Her influence will live on and on, "till time's last thunders shake the world." To those of her children and kindred who survive her, I would say live so as to meet her in the sweet and bright forever. Her former pastor, G.B. Boman _____ ORDER OF PUBLICATION State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court Special Term In the matter of the estate of W.J. Her death was as peaceful as one falling asleep. Her body was buried at Camp Creek church Sunday, attended by a large number of friends who had known and loved her in life. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.T. Warmack. She leaves behind a husband, one son McKinley, two daughters, Winnie and Pauline. Dear husband, son, brother and daughter will never hear mother calling us again, but if we will only live faithful, we shall live to part no more. She was conscious to the end and asked about her children, calling each one of us to her bedside, she said not a word to them but soon fell asleep. In the evenings the shadows will fall upon the grave of our loved one but remember, oh husband and children with aching hearts, the sumbeams coming over the top in the morning will kiss them as she sleeps before the world is awake. WALKER On March 22, 1920 at 11 o'clock p.m., after many days of suffering, the angel of death came and called from us a dear uncle to that eternal home beyond. His work was finished here. He lived to see his children baptized into the Missionary Baptist church. I know you children feel the loss but realize that your loss is his eternal gain, and we know he is rejoicing with his loved ones, father, mother, two brothers and a dear companion, who had gone on before. He had borne his share of grief and never faltered. He said he was ready and waiting for the call. The good sermons he preached at Cross Roads church will forever be remembered. He sang a song just a while before he died. Mr. Walker was born May 10, 1850. Joined the Missionary Baptist Church in August 1866 and lived a faithful member until his death, and had been an ordained minister a number of years. He was married to Miss Maryanne Smyth in August 1868. A bright jewel has been taken from the ones who loved him and his children will miss his love and kindness. We long to go and meet him and behold his smiling face. He is with his dear companion who crossed over before and also a precious father and mother over on the golden shore. In this world he leaves two sisters and two brothers and kind and devoted companion who to him were always true. He is dwelling up in heaven in a mansion bright and fair and we think we hear him calling for his loved ones to come there. Farewell to thee dear uncle, until the savior calls us home on the happy golden shore. His niece, Mrs. Leola Warren ____ LOCAL News N.J. Pesnell and Mrs. E.P.
