Williamson, Monday night at about 12 o'clock after an illness of four or five weeks. He was in his 82nd year. Mr. McCaghren was a gentleman of the old school and an ex-Confederate veteran whose ranks are growing thinner as the years go by. Uncle Bob lived the life of an upright christian gentleman and had the love and respect of everyone who knew him. Peace to his tired body and eternal happiness to his soul. ___ LOCAL News Mrs. J.W. Barnes celebrated her fifty-first birthday on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day with a turkey dinner and had as her guests Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Wager, Clellon, Lucile, Erle and Murel Wager; Mrs. Margaret Cook, Fred Cook; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Barnes and their two children Raymond Jr. and Rose Ann; Mrs. Frank Steele and little Miss Mary Elizabeth Steele. ___ Mr. W.S.D. Wootan of Anniston and Mrs. Margaret Massengale of Bowdon were quietly married at the home of Esqr. E.J.E. Lee on Thanksgiving day. __ Mrs. Margaret McEachern, wife of Mr. Duncan McEachern, one of the pioneer citizens of Calhoun county, died at the home of her husband at Peaceburg on Saturday night in her 75th year. The funeral and interment took place at Mount Zion cemetery at eleven o'clock. The husband, Mr. Duncan McEachern is a brother of Messrs. A.D. McEachern of Heflin and A.J. McEachern of Edwardsville. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, December 9, 1920 LOCAL News Mrs. Dave Reaves who has been sick for several weeks is now in Anniston at the St. Luke hospital doing nicely. __ UNCLE BILLIE AND AUNT JANE Uncle Billie and Aunt Jane Tolleson, two of our best known and most highly respected couple, had a most enjoyable Thanksgiving by being given a surprise party from out of town kin folks, composed of Mrs. J.M. Campbell and children of Chulafinnee; W.L. Johnson of Lineville; W.A. Fulton and wife of Saganaw, Shelby County; Mr. G.L. Garrett and children of Delta; Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Snow of Hightower. The children had previously chipped in and purchased Aunt Jane a nice easy rocker, and Uncle Billie is wondering if they will be able to butcher a 500 pound porker next winter as they did this, since that chair has come into the family. May they have many more similar Thanksiving days, is the sincere wish of The News. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, December 16, 1920 PIONEER CITIZEN CALLED BY DEATH "Uncle" Noah Beason, seventy-eight years old, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Overton on Wednesday of last week and was laid to rest in the family burying ground on Friday with Masonic honors. Rev. G.B. Boman conducted the funeral services. Uncle Noah is the last of a large number of the older set of the Beason family, and was loved and honored by hundreds throughout the county. Many relatives and close personal friends are left to mourn his death. Several years ago, Uncle Noah made a special request that he be buried in a homemade coffin and this request was carried out. ____ PINEYWOODS News Another good woman departed this life on December 5th, Grandma Bright. She was buried at Mt. Peron on December 6th. She leaves a husband and five children besides a host of grandchildren to mourn their loss. ___ Mrs. Bell Daniel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Horton was married in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 2nd to Mr. W.S. Byas, a business man of that city. The News wishes them success. __ LOCAL News On Sunday afternoon, December 5th, Mr. Arlin White and Miss Pauline Beason surprised their many friends by marrying, Justice M.V. Harris of Ai, speaking the solemn words which made this young couple man and wife. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Beason Jr. of Heflin and was teaching near Bell Mills at the time of her marriage. She was many warm and admiring friends in Heflin and surrounding territory. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. White and is a young man of sterling character, well liked by all who know him, and is to be congratulated upon winning such a talented and beautiful young bride. The News extends best wishes to the happy couple. ___ MR. PULLEY DEAD Word was received at this office Thursday morning just before going to press, telling of the death of Mr. W.E. Pulley in Anniston where he had been carried for an operation for appendicitis. His body was brought to Heflin for burial. The wife and five children survive. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, December 30, 1920 FORMER CLEBURNE VETERAN DEAD Mr. I.D. Hogan, who about 30 years moved from this county to Louisiana, died at the home of his son at Chourdrant the 7th of this month. Mr. Hogan was 70 odd years old at the time of his death and a Confederate veteran. Many years ago he filled the office of tax collector of Cleburne of Cleburne and made the county a faithful and efficient official. All the older citizens now living will remember the genial and friendly disposition of "Irve" Hogan. During his last visit to his relatives and friends in Cleburne, some eighteen months ago, he was in declining health and remarked that he hardly expected he would again be physically able to visit Cleburne friends and relatives in the future. Peace to his memory. ___ FRUITHURST News The whole community was saddened Saturday night when it was reported that Fred Lahr had passed away. He was a good neighbor, a staunch friend and a kind father, universally loved and respected. He is survived by four children, Everett, Anna, Clarence and Clara, to mourn their loss as well as a host of friends and neighbors, many of whom hastened to assist in the last sad obsequies. The children have requested me to express their appreciation of the many acts of kindness, friendship and love, who gave help when most needed in this their hour of bereavement. Being unable to see each one and thank them personally, they take this method publicly to give thanks to each one. ___ MARRIAGE LICENSES ISSUED H.L. Messer and MIss Dorshie Cheatwood Alton R. Lovvorn, who has been quite sick for several days, has improved but is still very ill. Her many friends hope for her early recovery. __ Quite a surprise was given to their many friends here when Mr. Jasper Cook and Miss Ethel Reaves were united in marriage Sunday afternoon, December 26, at the home of Rev. J.T. Roberts on Ross street. The wedding was a very quiet one on account of illness in the bride's family. The happy couple left immediately after the ceremony for Birmingham where they will spent their honeymoon. They will reside at Leeds, Alabama after January 1st. Mr. Cook is the son of Amos D. Cook, formerly of this county, now of Carrollton, Georgia, and is well known and highly esteemed here. Miss Reaves is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Reaves and is very popular with her friends here. The News extends congratulations. ___ MAN, 75, ROBBED OF $1,800 Mr. Ben Fordham, a well known citizen living near Lecta in the eastern part of the county, was visited by three masked robbers early last Friday evening and relieved of $1,800. One of the robbers is said to have held a murderous looking pistol in the old man's face while his two companions pryed open a bureau drawer and emptied it of its contents. Fordham, who is an old bachelor, is about 75 years old, lives alone, and was known to keep a considerable amount of money about the house, having a horror, it is said, for banks. After the robbers had completed their job, they told Fordham he might retire. It is not known whether or not theer is any clue to the perpetrators of the robbery. ____ Circuit Court Clerk J.W. Baber has appointed Miss Ethel Price of Arbacoochee as his deputy clerk.
