Olson made a trip to Atlanta on Sunday to see Mrs. Bowman who is a patient in an Atlanta hospital. Mrs. Bowman was recently operated on for cancer and seems to be doing as well as could be expected after a serious operation. ___ IN MEMORY OF LITTLE LUCILE WADE On Sunday morning, Lucile, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Wade died at their home on Ross street, age 2 years and thee months. She was a very bright child and was the last survivor of their four children. Many friends called at the home to express their sympathy with the grief stricken parents, and many attended the burial at the Heflin cemetery, funeral services being held at the home, conducted by Rev. J.T. Roberts of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. W.M. Wade, pastor of the M.E. Church, South. The bereaved parents have our sympathy. ____ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, April 14, 1921 NEW HEARING IS GIVEN CRUMLEY B.F. Crumley, who was convicted over a year ago in the Cleburne circuit court and sentenced to serve seven years for killing John William McElroy in Trickem Valley in the southeast part of the county, has secured a reverse in his case by the supreme court and will go on trial again at the next term of the Cleburne circuit court. The Crumley case has attracted considerable attention and the outcome of the second trial will be watched with interest. Notice of the action of the supreme court in reversing the case came the latter part of last week. Bond was set at $5000. which was readily furnished by Crumley, and on Saturday morning, after more than seven months confinement, the defendant was allowed to return to his home. ____ FRUITHURST News Mrs. J.J. Vance of Tallapoosa was here Thursday on a visit to her son and daughter, Mr. Vance and Mrs. Fowler. __ Mr. T.J. Giles has started up his sawmill about six miles north of town. __ LOCAL News Mr. R.F. Hooper had the misfortune to be thrown from a mule last week, Wednesday, and was badly shaken up. He is still suffering severely and thinks some of his ribs must have been fractured. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, April 21, 1921 A CARD To my friends of Cleburne County I am glad to say that I am getting along well, however, there was a mistake made through the columns of The News some time ago announcing my death. I am so thankful today that I am well and with my family. I thank the people of Heflin for all they have done for me, and want to thank all those good people in Anniston for their many acts of kindness while I was in the hospital for several weeks. I was well cared for. The lord was with me all during my sickness. I hope to meet you all in heaven when the good lord calls me. Yours very truly, W.E. Pulley ____ LOCAL News Mrs. F.M. Barnwell, mother of M.D. and J.T. Barnwell, died at the home of the former named son Monday night. Mrs. Barnwell was close to 80 years old and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. The News sympathizes with the bereaved family in their great loss. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, April 28, 1921 FRUITHURST News Our faithful rural mail carrier, Rufus Savage, went to Piedmont on Thursday to attend the funeral of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Alred. __ Mrs. Ruby Harcourt of Atlanta will open her summer home here soon. __ A GOOD MOTHER DIED TUESDAY News of the death of Mrs. James J. Turner, who departed this life at the home of her husband near Abernathy Tuesday night, was received in Heflin Wednesday morning. The good mother had been a long and patient sufferer but through it all, until god came to call her away, she bore her pain with christian fortitude and faith in him who never makes a mistake and never errs. Besides her husband, three children and a large circle of relatives and friends mourn her untimely death. The News extends Bro. Turner its sincere sympathy in his hour of deep grief. The funeral and interment took place Wednesday at Conford. ____ CARD OF THANKS We appreciate deeply the many acts of kindness and substantial sympathy shown us during the trying illness and death of our beloved mother and grandmother and pray that none of our friends may so stricken without the sustaining grace of our heavenly father.
