A fourteen-year-old boy named Sam Patterson has just been arrested at Anniston 
and placed in jail in default of $400 bond The boy is charged with stealing a 
mule in Oxford and does not deny the charge His mother died near Chulafinnee in 
Cleburne County some time ago and his father drove him away. The boy has ever 
since been dependent on the kindness of others for food and clothing. He is a 
bright boy but the unnatural treatment by his father has made him a beggar and a 
thief.
