She was freed at the age of 39 after being in service as a slave for several years, most of her life being spent in and around Heflin. Funeral services was conducted at New Bethel Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon followed by interment in the Heflin cemetery. Jane was born on a Christmas Day, December 25, 1825, and she was 115 years, seven months and six days old at her death. Three sons, the youngest of whom is 71 years old, and a daughter survive. They are Neal, Ollie, Noah and Mollie Clark. She had been active until she became ill two weeks ago.
