J. C: Taylor, whose loss we now deplore. He was born in South Carolina June 23d, 1833; died last December; joined the church at High Pine, Randolph County, Ala., about the age of eighteen. He was in the constitution of the church at Heflin, where he was liberated to preach was ordained to the full functions of the ministry October 12th, 1889, by the laying on of hands of the following presbytery, viz: Thos. H. Howle, W. J. Campbell, J. C. Garner and W. U. Almon. Bro. Taylor was a most zealous worker and preacher till death. We are thus reminded of our mortality, and that great usefulness, public honors, and exalted position furnish no exemption from the shafts of death. Death meets us everywhere, it is the law of our being, the unalterable decree of heaven. Bro. Taylor now sleeps his last sleep, he has fought his last battle, he has ceased from his labors, and his works do follow him. Bro. Taylor was a missionary indeed and in truth. He paid all that he was able to pay for support and spread of the gospel. He proclaimed the doctrine of Christ with burning zeal. He did a great work for his Lord. He was admired and beloved by all who knew him best. Unfaltering and unalterable as feeble man can be, he has gone to his reward. Palms of victory and crowns of glory no longer await him, for already he stands upon the shores of immortality playing on the golden harp, challenging death for its sting and the grave for its victory. He leaves behind an afflicted little son, a lonely wife and three lovely daughters, who deserve our sympathy and charity. T. H. Howle, Chairman.
