Both of his parents are buried in Clem United Methodist Church, Clem, Carroll County, Georgia, USA. James William THOMPSON's parents were married in Alabama circa 1857-1858, and were first enumerated in the 1860 United States Federal Census Record, with James, age 1, in the household. His father, Reverend Francis 'Frank' Asbury 'Berry' THOMPSON was a Methodist Riding Circuit Preacher, and his mother, Malinda Elizabeth's family were believed to be of the German Lutheran faith; they were not permitted to marry due to differences in their religions, and family tradition indicates they eloped. James William THOMPSON, 1858-1941, was the grandson of Reverend Chesley THOMPSON, b. 1804, Georgia, and his wife, Mary Ann 'Polly' HUDGENS THOMPSON, b. 1813, Georgia, last enumerated living in Pike County, Georgia, in 1880; a great grandson of North Carolina Revolutionary War Veteran, William HUDGENS, last enumerated, in 1842, at age 98, in West Florida Territory, [today's Escambia County] and of Henry THOMPSON/THOMSON, d. 1817-1826, Jasper County, Georgia, USA.
