Coffee County AlArchives Cemeteries.....Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery - Partial Survey More to Come ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Kathy Kelley King http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00027.html#0006524 November 29, 2009, 2:40 pm Abstracted By: George and Kathy King Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery: The church was founded on Aug. 28, 1868, according to a sign on the front of the building. Church services are no longer held there. To get to Antioch from Elba, travel U.S. Hwy. 87 north for about 4 miles. Turn west (left) onto Coffee County Rd. 349 and drive for about a mile and a half. When you get to the first 4-way stop sign, do not turn off 349. At the second 4-way stop sign, turn right onto Coffee County Rd. 306, and drive for about 9 miles. You will go through Shady Grove, a black community, through Newbia Community, and then Antioch will be just past a 90 degree curve in the road. The church and cemetery are on the right side of the road. There are many ways to approach this cemetery because it is in the northwest corner of Coffee County. Pike and Crenshaw Counties are just up the road from the church. My husband's (George E. King) family, the Kings and the Hudsons, are all buried there for several generations. Many mounded dirt graves that he remembers from his childhood are no longer marked and have been lost. We began the survey from the east side and worked our way row by row until we reached the back. The survey is not finished yet. There will be several hundred graves, I think. Please send corrections to kking1947@centurytel.net.
