All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Debra Maddox Wilson JWi4194718@aol.com July 21, 2005, 8:02 am Civil War Matthew enlisted as 2nd Lieutenant in B M Thomas Brigade,District of the Gulf in August 5 1864 at Elba,Coffee County;Alabama.He was forty-eight years old,blue eyes and dark hair.He was born in Monroe County Georgia.February 1865 the unit was order to Selma.Six companies were assigned guard duty at the post of Cahaba,and in March attached to General Clanton's command.It was reported to be at Montgomery during April with approximately 300 effectives,and in May was included in the surrender of the Department of Alabama,Mississippi,and East Louisanna.Colonel William M Brooks,Lieutenant Colonel W D Bulger,and Major Whitfield Walker were in command. Additional Comments: Matthew was born February 12 1814 in Monroe Co;Georgia.Matthew parents were Samuel Maddox Jr and Patsy ?.He married Martha Rebecca Bowden December 24 1835 in Monroe Co;Georgia.In 1850's the couple moves to Elba,Coffee Co;Alabama.They had fifteen children in which six of them moved to Mississippi.Matthew and Martha are buried at Rosin Ridge Cemetery in Coffee Co;Alabama.
