Enterprise Ledger
  Carlus Thomas Harper, 92, of New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama died at 
his home Thursday, 30 December 1999 of heart problems. He was surrounded by 
his family. He was buried at McGee Cemetery on Coffee County Road 246.
He was the son of Aaron Thomas Harper & Mary Ilah Jernigan Harper.  He was 
born 13 July 1907 In Coffee County, and except for a short residence in 
Texas, spent his lifetime there. He married Annie Laurie Dawkins (daughter 
of George Carter Dawkins & Annie Mae Owen Dawkins) of Coffee County and they 
were married for 66 years. They were Jehovah's Witnesses.
  His earlier business interests included truck farming, commerical 
beekeeping (Harper Apiaries), and blueberry orchards of over 700 bushes. He 
was a man who enjoyed hard and honest work and expected the same of 
everyone. As a young man he played the fiddle by ear at many square dances 
receiving much joy from this until he cut one of his fingers and could no 
longer play.
  He was survived by his wife and one sister (Alliene Robinson), his 
daughter, Faye Marie Harper Snellgrove Lassiter, two sons, Thomas Carter 
Harper and William Larry Harper, grandchildren, Judy Snellgrove West, Tom 
Howard Snellgrove Jr., Thomas Bradford Harper, Julien Jessica Harper, Audrey 
Marie Lassiter Sheppard, Mary Catherine Lassiter Davis, and Lucas Nathaniel 
Harper.

I have given a general synopsis of the obituary we compiled for the Enterprise 
Ledger though I have given the names of his grandchildren.
