Oct. 22-24, 1904 MOTES [or MOATES] , HARRIS (b. 3-10-1852 – d. 8-11-1904) – Coffee Co., Ala. In Memory of Our Departed Brother, Harris Motes Brother Motes was born in Henry County, Ala., March 10th, 1852, and was married to Miss Molsey L. Johnson January 5, 1879. To them were born nine children, seven boys and two girls; all of whom survive him except one. He departed this life August 11, 1904. He was a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist church, joining same at Mt. Pleasant May the 6th, 1899. Brother Motes was a lover of his Bible, a consistent Baptist and everything it takes to make a good citizen. [written by] J. E. Helms and M. W. Helms Additional Comments: Mr. Motes’ headstone, joint with that of his wife, shows the family name as “Moates.” Mrs. Motes’/Moates’ name on her tombstone is “M. Louraner.” She survived until 1937. They were buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at New Brockton, Coffee Co., Ala. At the time of the 1900 U. S. Census, the family lived at Enterprise, Coffee, County.
