Pond, who is serving his second two-year term as head of the city’s government, was born, reared, and spent most of his life in Rockford. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Pond, Sr., and both his maternal and paternal forebears were among the pioneers of this county. His grandfather, Ebenezer Pond, was one of Coosa County’s first judges of probate, and his maternal grandfather, James A. Wilson, served the county as sheriff prior to the Civil War. Mayor Pond today lives on the same spot where he was born. This is known as the old "James R. Powell Home." Mr. Powell left Rockford many years ago to become one of Birmingham’s business men and real estate dealers. Since early manhood Mayor Pond has been closely related to the real estate in Coosa County. For is was at the age to twenty-one he was appointed county surveyor and learned all the land lines in Coosa County. He deals in real estate and operates several farms in the vicinity of Rockford.
