ALGenWeb File Manager - Carolyn Golowka ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contributed by Ronald Bridges, Bridgesrd@worldnet.att.net September, 2000 "Confederate Soldiers Royally Entertained A small party of Confederate soldiers met in Goodwater last Wednesday to associate with the old comrades who reside in distant states and who are now visiting the scenes of their boyhood day.; and talk over old time and relate incidents of their lives before, during and after the great bloody conflict in which they took active parts. The courtesy shown them by their host will long remain fresh in their memory, and they go away from Goodwater singing the praises of at lest two of our most charming women. Unexcelled in the culinary art, and proud of the opportunity to entertain the veterans of the 'lost cause', the Mesdames Thom. J. and Joseph Bridges, placed before these old soldiers a repast that would tempt the palate of the most fastidious. That they did full justice to the meal goes without saying. They informed the writer that they hadn't enjoyed a meal more, that the one prepared for them by the good women. Upon a special invitation issued by Thom. J. Bridges, these few old soldiers repaired to the home where they received such hearty welcome at the hands of these ladies. They were so much impressed with their treatment that they visited the Enterprise office in a body and ask that we thank them through our columns for their generous treatment. The following is the names and addresses of the soldiers who were in this party: W. P. Jeanes, McGregor, Tex., I. G. Chappel, Wilsonville, Ala., W. N. Deason, Goodwater, Ala., all of Co.
