Alabama (file obtained from The National Archives, Washington, D.C.) Nov. 22, 1850 State of Alabama, Coosa County On this the 22nd day of November, one thousand eight hundred and fifty, personally appeared before a Justice of the peace within and for the county and state aforesaid, Jordan Gay, aged sixty-four years, a resident of Coosa county in the State of Alabama, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Jordan Gay who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Gabriel Gunn in the Regiment of Georgia Malitia commanded by Col Jenkins who died and his place in command filled by Colonel Daniel Newman?, Battalion Commanded by Major Hog?,, commander in chief General Floid in the Indian War with the Creek Indians declared about 1812. That he volunteered at Lovejoys in Jasper county, Georgia and was then a citizen of said county of Jasper, state of Georgia, on or about the fifteenth day of August 1812 for the term of six months and was not called into actual service until the twenty- third day of August 1813, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of six months, and was honorably discharged at Milledgeville, Georgia about the first day of March 1814, as will appear by the Muster Rolls of said company. Sworn to and subscribed beofre John Holley, Justice of the Peace, on the day above written, Nov. 22, 1850. Signed, Jordan Gay He, the said Jordan Gay, makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land which he is entitled to under the Act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States. John Holley, J.P. ---- March 28, 1855 Claim for Bounty Land State of Alabama, County of Coosa On this 28th day of March, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, personally appeared before a Justice of the Peace, within and for the county aforesaid, Mrs. Rebecca Gay, aged sixty years, a resident of Coosa County, in the state of Alabama, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Jordan Gay, deceased, who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Gunn in the Regiment of Georgia Militia in the War with Great Brittain of 1812 or the Indian War of 1812 to 1816. That her said husband volunterred at Monticello, Ga. on or about the 15th day of June 1812 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for a term of four months and was discharged at Monticello, Georgia about the 15th of October 1812. She further states that she was married to the said Jordan Gay in Jasper county, State of Georgia on the __ day of October 1812 by ?? Reddley? a justice of the peace and that her name before her marriage was Rebecca Richardson; that her said husband died at Coosa County, Alabama on the 8th day of September 1853; and that she is now a widow at the date of executing this declaration, and having obtained a Bounty Land warrant under the act of 28 Sept. 1850 for 80 acres, which she has legally transferred and disposed of, she refers to said declaration as evidence of her husband's service and her marriage. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under the act approved March 3rd, 1855. Signed, Rebecca Gay, X, her mark We, John McCoy and Berry Gay, residents of Coosa county in the state of Alabama, upon our oaths declare the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Rebecca Gay in our presence, and that we believe, from the appearance and statements of the applicant that she is the identical person she represents herself to be. Signed, John McCoy, Berry Gay, X, his mark Sworn to and subscribed before me on the date and year above written. Manning Ray, J.P. ----- December 15, 1855 State of Alabama, Coosa County Jordan Gay and Rebecca Richardson was married October 18, 1812. Personally appeared before a Justice of the Peace duly authorized to administer oaths within and for said state and county, John McCoy and Jacob Duncan, residents of Coosa County, State of Alabama, and after being duly sworn depose and say that the above (statement) is a true and full transcript from the genuine family record of Jordan Gay, of the marriage of Jordan Gay and wife Rebecca Gay and state further that they were personally acquainted with the said Jordan Gay and wife Rebecca Gay and that they lived together, cohabiting as husband and wife; that the said Jordan Gay died in this county on or about the 9th of September 1853; that Rebecca Gay is now a widow and has remained a widow since the death of her husband and resides in our said county of Coosa.
