DROWNED IN HATCHETT CREEK

    "Calvert Logan, a young man about 25 years of age, was drowned in 
Hatchett creek in the western part of this county last Monday morning and 
was buried in the cemetery at Hatchett creek church Tuesday. Information as 
to the facts of how the young man met his death are very meager. From the 
best information obtainable it appears that he left his home in the morning 
to work in a field something over a mile away, and on the opposite side of 
Hatchett creek sending a boy who was working with him around by the ford 
with the horses, he intending to walk a nearer way and cross the creek in a 
boat. Not reaching the field at proper time, the boy went in search of him 
and finding the boast in which he had intended to cross the creek, turned 
bottom upwards, and calling in some of the neighbors . A search was made 
and the body was found about 30 feet from the shore. Only a few places in 
the creek at that place was deep enough to have been over Mr. Logan’s head 
if standing, and he is said to have been a fairly good swimmer, and it is 
with some difficulty to conjecture just how he met his death.
    He leaves a wife and one child besides many other relatives and friends 
to mourn his untimely death."(1)

Coosa Co., AL) married Mindy Ann Murphy (b. 4 Mar 1892 in Coosa Co., AL & d. 
31 Aug 1979 in Autauga Co., AL) on 20 Oct 1908 in Coosa Co., AL. Calvert is 
buried in Dollar/Hatchett Creek Cem, Coosa Co., AL. Mindy is buried in 
White City Cemetery, White City, Autauga Co., AL. About three years after 
the death of Calvert, Mindy married William Henry Logan, the brother of 
Calvert.
