The immediate cause of his death was bladder trouble. He served through the war as a Confederate soldier and it used to be said of him by his comrades that a braver and truer soldier never trod leather. He never had any children and leaves of his immediate family on a widow to mourn his death. Uncle John was a good neighbor and left a host of friends who sympathize with his widow in her bereavement." (1) (1) The Chronicle, Local and Personal, 15 Jan 1909, p. 5.
