T. Hunter, at Equality, on the 11th day of the present month, he being at the time of his death 96 years of age. He was a citizen of this county 55 years, living during the time near Speed. Previous to coming to Alabama he lived South Carolina, his native state. Notwithstanding his advance age Mr. Speer retained much of his physical strength and metal vigor to a short time before he died. With his advancing years he kept bright and ever ready for use all the knowledge his active mind had gathered along the way and continually added thereto from each passing event. He, and his wife who preceded him by a few years to the beyond, leave three sons, Jas. Speer, who lives near Wetumpka, Geo. Speer, of Chilton county, and W. C. Speer, of Speed. Also three daughter, Mrs. Bradford of Shelby county, Mrs. Christie, of East Lake, and Mrs. Hunter of Equality: Mrs. J. H. Johnson, another daughter, having preceded both father and mother to the spirit land by several years." (1) (1) The Chronicle, The Oldest Person in the County Gone, 21 Jan 1910, p. 4.
