He was very old, being in his 80th year at the time of his death. Being a young man at the time of the Civil War, he enlisted in the 12th Louisiana regiment, remaining there until the close of the war. At an early age he united with the Methodist church and has always been a consecrated Christian and an earnest church worker. While we will truly miss father, we are sure that our loss is a Heaven gain. We are so thankful that God allowed us to keep him this long; for his life has certainly been an example for those who desire to live a consecrated life. I am sure that all his friends also feel, "It was good to know him and to know him was to love him." We will ever miss you father, all your patient loving care. May we live that we may meet you - In that land, 'Just Over There' Over the river thou hast gone To that Eternal land. There to live and sing God's praises With that Angelic band. O, the years are swiftly flying One by one we're going home. There we'll met and sing forever, Near our blessed Savior's throne. Blessed Savior, thou guide us Till we reach the Heavenly Shrine. There to meet our dear grandfather In that Home forever-more. - Clyde Waldrip" (1) (1) The Rockford Chronicle, In Memory of Asa Waldrip, 21 Jun 1923, p. 1. Printed in Rockford, Coosa Co., AL.
