Additional Comments:
On September 14, 1997, Bill Miller, Charles Logan, Bob Savage, and I traveled 

to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Hanover, Coosa County, AL. There 

we placed and flushed a stone marker against the bottom of the headstone of 

Andrew Jackson Miller. This marker had inscribed upon it: his name, the 

regiment and company he served while in the Confederate Army. Bill Miller is 

the Great Grandson of John McBride Miller, who is the brother of Andrew 

Jackson Miller. Charles Logan is distantly related to Ellen Logan Miller, the 

wife of Andrew Jackson Miller. Ron Bridges



Three of my Great Great Grandfathers served in the 53rd Alabama Cavalry 

Regiment. Two of them, Andrew Jackson Miller and George Washington McEwen, 

served in Company C.  Andrew is buried in Poplar Springs Baptist Church 

Cemetery, located near Hanover, Coosa Co., AL. George Washington McEwen is 

buried in Sears Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Coosa Co., AL located 

about a mile north of Rockford. The third one, John Eager Howard Rushing, 

served in Company B. He is buried in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Pike 

Co., AL This regiment was also referred as a mounted infantry and was also 

called Partisan Rangers. Ron Bridges
