Williams Pioneer Opp Citizen Is Buried at Cool Springs Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon at four o'clock at Cool Springs for Jasper L. Williams, age 75 years, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Colquett, Sunday night following a serious illness of two weeks duration. Mr. Williams had been in declining health for some time and was a bed ridden patient for several weeks last year but recovered and until recently had been able to be brought to town where he delighted in conversing with his friends, whom he had in large numbers, as they met in various places over the town. He was a pioneer citizen of Opp and Covington County having been a resident of this place since it was in its infancy and was at one time a very prosperous business man. Later as he grew older he retired from business and devoted his time to overseeing his farms. He was born in Covington County June 11, 1860 and in 1879 was married to Mrs. Sara E. Sasser, who preceded him in death by several years. He was a staunch member of the Primitive Baptist Church having affiliated with that church at the age of twenty-three years and as long as his health would permit was a regular attendant at services. The large funeral cortege and the beautiful assortment of floral designs attested the esteem with which Mr. Williams, known to his friends as "Uncle Jasper", was held. Rev. Jack Mitchell officiated at the funeral assisted by Rev. Malone Meredith and the body was interred in the cemetery at Cool Springs. The following grandsons were active pallbearers: Engram, E.C., Adolph, James and Wilmer Williams and Donald Colquett. Honorary pallbearers were: Will Robbins, L.S. Wright, Sandy King, Dan Cowen, D.F. Colquett, and Jim Peoples. Surviving the deceased are two sons, Wilton Williams, Andalusia and Elton Williams, Bonifay, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. L.Lindsey, Montgomery, Mrs. J.S.
