W. Wood, on Thursday C. W. Wood, one of Andalusia's outstanding citizens and civic workers, was called to The Great Beyond when he was claimed by death last Wednesday, Dec. 6, at his home on South Cotton Street. Mr. Wood went to his office at the railroad depot, as usual, although he was not feeling well, and went home about 1:30, retiring to bed. A doctor was summoned but he was dead before the doctor could get to his bed-side. Mr. Wood had been agent for the Central of Georgia Railroad for the past eight years, coming here from Opelika, Alabama and all in all he had been in the employ of the Central of Georgia Railway for thirty-one years. He was also local agent for the American Railway Express Company. Mr. Wood was always active in church and civic movements, putting forth his time and money where he was able. He was a Steward of the Andalusia First Methodist Church, of which he was a member, President of the local Lions Club, member of the Andalusia Country Club, Woodmen of the World, Masonic Lodge and the O. R. T. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ruby Wood, two daughters, Misses (private) Wood of Andalusia; mother, Mrs. Jane Wood, Baker Hill, Ala.; one sister, Mrs. (private) Trammell, Headland, Ala.; and one brother, C. A. Wood, Baker Hill, Ala. Simple, but impressive funeral services for the deceased were held from the Andalusia First Methodist Church with the pastor, Dr. W. W. Jeffries officiating. Services began with the choir composed of Messrs. George Proctor, Robert Ham, Cecil Saul, Mrs. Eugene Grant, Mrs. J. H. Kyzar, singing "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," accompanied by Mrs. Josie Lyons at the organ. Rev. Jeffries then offered prayer and following the prayer Mr. Robert Ham sang, "Sunrise." Dr. Jefferies then read several verses of scriptures from the Bible and offered words of comfort to the bereaved, and pointed out that Mr. Wood was loved by everyone whom he came in contact with. Following the services the body was tenderly laid to rest under a huge mound of beautiful floral offerings which attested the great love and esteem in which the deceased was held by his friends and loved ones. Interment took place in the Magnolia cemetery. Active pallbearers were fellow-workers of the deceased and were Paul S. Jones, E. M. Wilson, of Andalusia; J. R. Gilmer and T. G. Moss of Troy; L. D. Houston, Brantley and W. B. Cogdell of Baker Hill, Ala. Honorary pallbearers were Stewards and Trustees of the First Methodist Church and were Messrs. E. B. Norton, Dr. W. R. Middleton, G. H. Proctor, L. E. Brown, W. M. Thweatt, E. E. King, E. F. Blocker, J. Ralph Clark, Edward F. Reid, L. M. Johnston, Dr. W. L. McCarty, Mike Maddox, J. O. Ellisor, E. O. Baldwin, Eugene Shreve, J. G. Dunn, G. W. Proctor, J. A. Prestwood, Bill Albritton, J. W. Shreve, M. J. Newberry. Close friends of the deceased served as honorary pallbearers and were Dr. C. S. Hamner, J. F. Davis, L. S. Taylor, W. Y. Walton, Kyle Parks, Tracy Wilder, Bernard Simmons, Raymond Shreve, O. L. Thagard, E. M. Beckett, H. H. Bailey, Parker Weed, Ben Lowman, J. G. Scherf, Geo. H. Barnes, R. B. Anderson and E. D. Lorraine. Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. John Wood, Mrs. Frankie Murphy, Mrs. H. C. Holson, all of Abbeville; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Wood, Mr. Bill Wood, Mr. Crawford Wood, Baker Hill; Misses Caroline Rabren, Frances Williams, Martha Lee Stamps of Montevallo; Mr. Jas.
