He was wounded in the Battle of Chicamauga, September 19-20, 1863. He served the remainder of his time in service as a nurse. He was discharged from the Army on June 10, 1865 and was taken to Montgomery, Alabama. From there, he walked home to Bullock, Alabama. Per his pension application on August 16, 1911, he was 71 years old. On this application and the 1921 Census of Confederate Soldiers, his address was given as Route 20, Brantley, Alabama, likely Crenshaw County (there are two Brantley communities in Alabama with Brantley, Crenshaw County just up the road from Bullock).
