Bowden, Sole County Survivor, Died Saturday Prominent Citizen of Cullman for Seventy Years G.T. Bowden, age 90, the sole surviving Confederate Veteran of Cullman County, died at 7:00 o'clock last Saturday Evening. Mr. Bowden had been ill only a few weeks before his death, and was unusually alert and in good physical trim for a man of his age. A native of Georgia, Mr. Bowden enlisted in the Confederate Army at the age of 15 years and served for three years, having been in several major battles. He was captured at Murphreesboro, Tenn. and imprisoned in Chicago the last year of the war. Returning to Georgia, he moved shortly to Alabama, and had resided in this county continuously for over 70 years. He was a Mason, had served as County Commissioner several terms and was well known and popular throughout the county for many years. Two sons, Gregory C. Bowden, Southern District manager of the Southern Bell Telephone company, Atlanta, Ga., and Richard Bowden, Cullman, Route 4, survive. A brother Braxton Bragg Bowden, of Rangor, Ga., and a sister, Mrs. Jesse Hart, of Columbia, Ala., also survive. Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Fred. J. Buchmann on Monday afternoon, with Rev. J.H. Brown in charge. Oscar Fischer and Sons, directing. Interment was at the Protestant Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Ben Timpe, W.L. Ward, W.P. Herrell, J.M.
