S, 1809-Nov. 10, 1898: William Faust was one of Ozark's earliest pioneers, having moved to the then Woodshop in the late 1840's from the south-west Georgia area. In the early 1850s he opened one of the first mercantile businesses on the north side of the square where the Ozark City Bank building is. "Uncle Billy" as he was called was known to be hospitable and genial. During his late years he succeeded in acquiring large property interests among which were forty acres encompassing the present downtown Ozark beginning with the northwest boundary of the present Ozark Post Office and extending one quarter mile in each direction. Recorded also was a transaction of sale of property by William Faust to Major Carroll on September 29, 1883 for $600 the land owned by James C. Dunn. "Uncle Billy", loving to entertain, built the present Mixon Hotel and owned it at the time of his death. Outliving all but one of his children, he left his large estate to be administered by a grandson, Bascom Faust, who later was to become one of Ozark's mayors. Among his descendants currently living in Ozark are Mrs. Virginia Faust Ragsdale, and Robert Lewe Faust. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/alfiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
