He served in the military about 1835 in Georgia. "...he volunteered to fight in the Florida War and was a private in Captain Steward's Company of the Georgia Volunteers. The purpose of this war was to drive the Seminole Indians from Georgia and Florida, and have them locate as a tribe in Oklahoma. It seems that the task was much harder than the United States thought it would be and the war lasted 5 or 6 years...and closed with the job only partially completed."
