Wednesday, August 5, 1885 Page One From Haw Ridge Miss Minerva Head has returned from a trip up in Pike in the interest of a new cutting chart for dressmaking. This new method is her own patent and invention. We know of its merits only through the praise bestowed upon its simplicity and correctness by the ladies who are generally good judges of such things. Miss Head is one of the most thorough business ladies of our country and deserves great credit for the excellent manner in which she has managed the family affairs committed to her charge by the death of her parents several years ago. She has certainly demonstrated that “where there is a will there is a way,” and that way she has found in the success she has attained. The country does and should feel proud of Miss Head and why not? Where will you find another instance of a girl in her teens taking the place of a father and mother to her little brothers and sisters, managing the farm and family affairs, keeping the family together making an honest living, and money over and above. I know of no other instance in my life. It does also demonstrate that woman has a mission in the world and that she is not the helpless creature of circumstance that she generally thinks herself to be.
