Wednesday morning, March 18, 1885 Page One Correspondence From Newton March 7th, 1885 Mr. John R. Kelly has made considerable improvement on his dwelling; he has had two more rooms put to it which adds to its appearance. Mr. A.N. Jones leaves tomorrow for the western markets to purchase his groceries. Here are goods in Newton now than every at any one time before and especially groceries. Our merchants are receiving larger stocks of Spring dress goods and clothing and are offering them cheap. Mr. Knight, with his barge and the Wewahitchka, arrived at Pate’s Landing yesterday, bringing up thirty-seven and one half tons of guano. Mr. I.J. Stewart is again able to be upon the streets but has not finally recovered from the bruises he received by being thrown from his buggy. There is still some sickness in our town. There were two deaths this week: Mrs. Lewis, near Mr. Killebrew’s factory, and Judge Griffeth, the father of Mr. E.W. Griffeth, of Ozark, died on the 6th inst., aged ninety-three years.
