All the work, long hours of planning and meeting, trying to raise money to put the whole thing over, it has reached fruition, and possibly you have witnessed most of the events of Centennial Week in Ozark. No doubt some improvement could have been made here and there, and certainly everyone connected with the event could have used some more time in planning their particular activity, but by and large every planned event has come off with a high degree of success. The turnout at every event was good, and in many instances far better than anticipated. We have been involved with many aspects of this Centennial celebration, and when we started urging over a year and a half ago that Ozark stage a Centennial celebration, we didn't know what we were getting into. At least we didn't dream it would involve so much work. As for our endeavor in this issue, we have attempted to produce a Centennial issue that will be unique in commemorating 100 years of Ozark's history. Here again when we came up with this idea, the amount of work that it has taken was hardly imagined. Attempting to get a head start on such a project is difficult with the week to week requirements of publishing a weekly newspaper, but we make no apologies for the end product. We are rather proud of it, and hope you are too. Certainly it could have been improved upon, and more individuals, families and businesses included, but in the amount of time we have had to put this issue together, this issue will have to stand on its merits. We would like to thank the numerous people who have made old pictures available, and who have furnished us with information to support the various picture and historical information contained in this issue. If and when we ever do attempt another special issue of an historical nature, don't look for it to be attempted in anything less than a year from initial planning stage to publication date. While a great deal of advertising solicitation, gathering pictures and information has been going on for over two months, the final production of this section was accomplished between the issues of October 8 and October 15. Now my linotype operator, printers, reporters and other assistants would like to join me in a long rest, but the issue of October 22 doesn't allow any time for that. And we hope to get back on a regular schedule next week, attempting to get some of those stories or pictures in the paper that might have been delayed in getting this special issue out, the largest in the history of The Southern Star, except for a 64 page Kiwanis edition that was published in 1927, and it was produced over about a six months period.
