Marshall Fatally Injured This Afternoon Falling Timber On Church Building Job Crushes Skull Dies In Dothan Hospital 2 Hours After Accident Mr. Lewis J Marshall, local carpenter, was fatally injured this afternoon at three o'clock when a large piece of lumber fell from the top of the steel framing at the M.E. Church construction job and struck him on the head. Mr. M. D. Moore, of Pinckard. another workman on the job with Mr. Marshall suffered severe bruises. Marshall and Mr. Moore were sawing lumber, four by ten pieces 12 feet long and hoisting them to the workmen above by a block and tackle. In some manner a piece of the lumber that had been hoisted slipped from the handa of the workmen and fell on Mr. Marshall who was working directly under the scaffold, crushing his skull. Mr. Marshall was rushed to a. Dothan hospital in a Holman ambulance but died at 5:25, never regaining consciousness. Mr. Marshall had been employed on the church job since it started several weeks ago. He was an expert workman and one of the city's most highly esteemed citizens. For several years he was Superintendent of the City Streets, resigning to follow the building trade. He was a loyal member of the Methodist Church, an officer of his Sunday School class and a faithful attentiant upon all services of both Church and Sunday School.
