OUR BoyS WITH THE COLORS DALE COUNTY BOY ON AIR AT FT. McPHERSON The Star acknowledges receipt of the following letter from Pvts. Riley Tarter and R. F. Cook, stationed at Fort McPherson, Ga.: "Just to let you know that the boys of Dale County are making fine soldiers here at Ft. McPherson,Ga. Ray Jones, a Dale County boy was on the air, "Rookie's On Parade" Saturday night. He won this honor over stiff opposition, but being from Dale County he led the groups in the "Saturday Night Grand Old Opera" which is held here every Saturday night at 8 o'clock for one hour. Hope everyone back home is fine, we are, and like the Army fine." JOHN D. TURNIPSEED NOW STAFF SERGEANT The Special Service officer at Camp Gordon Johnston, Carrabelle, Fla., notifies the Star that Corporal Technician John D. Turnipseed, Stationed at Camp Johnston, has been promoted to Staff Sergeant. DALE COUNTY BOY PRISONER OF WAR OF JAPANESE Mr. W. G. Faulkner, Route 1 Midland City, has been notified by the Adjutant General of the United States Air Corps, that his son, Marcus A. Faulkner, is a prisoner of war of the Japanese government in the Philippine Islands. This is the first word received since December 4, 1941. Then he was Stationed at Fort McKinny, Manile, P. I. * Marcus A. Faulkner b Apr 21, 1915 d Jan 9, 1943, POW on Luzon. buried Mt. Carmel UMC cem. LOCAL BOY AT CAMP RUCKER NOW MASTER SERGEANT S/Sgt.,George T. Byrd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edd Byrd, Route 2, Ozark, Ala.,has been promoted to the grade of Master Sergeant, according to an announcement from the Public Relations Office. Sergeant Byrd was inducted into the Army November 25, 1941 at Ft. McClellan. Ala. Before his induction Into the Army, Sergeant Byrd was employed'by the Enterprise Banking Company, Enterprise. Ala., as a teller for two and half years. At Camp Rucker, Alabama, where he is currently stationed, he Is serving as personnel sergeant major Unit Personnel, Station Complement in Camp Headquarters.
