Casualties On ALL Fronts Is 225,382
   Casualties of Recent Naval Action Not Believed Included

WASHINGTON, June 22 - The war on alll fronts has brought 178,677
casualties to the Army and 46,705 to the Navy.
  The Army casualties cover a period through June 6 the Navy total is on the 
basis of a report made public today. The total of 225,382 for both services Is 
an Increase of 8,351 . over figures announced two weeks ago. This Increase 
includes casualties suffered on the first day of the Invasion of Europe.
  Dispatches from Fifth Army headquarters in Italy today said unofficial 
estimates  placed German casualties during the past 41 days at between 80.000 
and 100,000 killed, wounded and captured. At Moscow the Soviet Information
Bureau said  more than 7.800.000 Germans have been killed or captured on the 
eastern front, as against 5,300.000 Russians killed, missing or captured.
  Of the U. S. Army  casualties, 31,289 are dead, 71,432 wounded, 39,976 
missing and 35,980 prisoners. The campaign on the Italian mainland, from the 
landings on Sept. 9 through June 15, brought 64,993 casualties, of whom 11,610 
are killed, 44,426 wounded, and 8,956 missing. American airmen operating from 
Italy against targets there and in Nazi-held Europe have lost, during the snae 
period, 1,186 killed, 1,373 wounded and 6,493 missing- a total of 9,052.
  The Navy figures today showed an increase of 932 since an announcement two 
weeks ago. It Is believed that the intense Navy, Marine and Coast Guard 
activity in the Pacific during recent weeks and days is not vet reflected in 
the Navy totals. The latest Navy figures place the killed at 20,044,wounded at 
12,905, the missing at 9,295 and the prisoners at 4,461.
