Wednesday morning, March 18, 1885 Page Two From Newton March 22, 1885 Editor Star: Preaching today at the Baptist church by Rev. T.H. Stout, of Eufaula. Miss Mattie Matthews, of Haw Ridge, has been spending a few days this week in our town. Miss Florence Mullins, of Opelika, has spent several weeks in our town with her sister, Mrs. G.S. Crim. Miss C.C. Matthews, T.J. Killebrew and daughter Miss Kona, returned last Sunday night from the Exposition. Mr. O.C. Doster, of this place, informs us that he has a flourishing school at Sylvin Grove, and we say it boastingly that we do not think there is a school in south-east Alabama that has any finer teacher than we have. Prof. McCartha is second to none. Messenger Additional Comments: Transcriber's note:The date of the paper and the date of the Newton article are transcribed as they appear in the newspaper.
