Wednesday morning, November 26, 1884 Page Three Local Intelligence We are pleased to see Mr. N.P. Dowling, who has been quite sick for several days, is at his place of business again. A little four year old son of Mr. Elisha Woodham who lives near town, was dangerously burned yesterday morning. Rev. N.C. Underwood will preach at the Baptist church in this place next Sunday at 11 o’clock. Mr. Samuel Windham of our county killed last week a twenty-six months old hog that weighed three hundred and ninety five pounds. Messrs. M.S. Smith and A.L. Milligan leave this morning to attend the Grand Lodge of Masons which convenes in the city of Montgomery next Monday. Last Saturday was a lively day in these parts, Mr. King the Collector was sitting at the seat of custom and the people were here paying tribute to this great government of ours. Our old friend Mr. Edward Dowling presented his wife, daughter-in-law and six daughters with a beautiful dress last week in honor of Cleveland’s election. The merchant who sold the goods, is, of course a Cleveland man. The gin house of Mr. John W. Branch near Echo, with ten or twelve bales of cotton was destroyed by fire on Wednesday night of last week. The loss falls heavily on Mr. Branch as we suppose he had no insurance. The burning was accidental. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/al/dale/newspapers/newsfrom198nw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/alfiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
