Wednesday morning, January 28, 1885 Page Three From Roeton Mr. Editor: If you will permit I will drop you a few items, as Christmas has past and the new year has dawned upon us. Though the news of this year will be very limited, as the weather has been so disagreeable, we have not collected anything of importance. Mr. W.A. Logan has moved from Roeton to Cool Springs, Academy and Mr. J.W. Roe is our Post Master now and will be this year unless Mr. Logan sees fit to move the office to his new residence near Mr. Weed’s. A goodly number of our farmers have been storing away pork the past cold days. We’re going to make plenty of sausage; call and take dinner with us. Mr. J.M. Laney, after having succeeded in harvesting a fine crop of wheat the past year, has sown a large quantity for another crop. Sowing oats is our topic for next week. We expect a fine school the ensuing year, as we hope to secure the service of Col. S.J. Doster. We haven’t had any school for several months, and we hope the Col. will soon be ready. We must have a new schoolhouse. Mr. J.C. Barnes has finished his fine dwelling, and it is a fine one sure enough. It’s got glass windows. I guess he will have a plank fence too. He is going to get himself a big rocking chair when he goes to town.
