JOHN T. BOWMAN – Dale Co., Ala. Mrs. Matilda Bowman died Sept. 22, 1968, after having been a most active member of Hopeful Church, Ozark, Ala. [Dale County] for 70 years. She was the widow of the late John T. Bowman, who served that church as a deacon for 50 years, and the mother of Deacon Frank Bowman, well-known among Primitive Baptists. She was 89 years of age and had been in ill health for several years. She is survived by two sons, Wade and Frank Bowman. Her daughter, Mrs. Early Dillard, is deceased. Other survivors are: three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren, Ozark; a brother, Tom Chapman, Samson, Ala.; and a sister, Mrs. Detsy Anderson, Coffee Springs, Ala. Funeral services were held Sept. 24, 1968, at her beloved Hopeful Church, and she was placed beside the remains of her dear husband in the adjoining cemetery, with Elders J. J. Watson and J. J. Collins officiating. The latter served as her pastor 18 years. He used as a theme, “Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.” (Proverbs) Truly a wonderful mother in Israel has gone home to be with the Lord. – J. J.
