Reprinted Aug.5, 1998 Prominent Dale Farmer Killed By Angry Bull R. E. Hayes, 76, widely known resident of the Longstreet Community was trampled to death by an angry bull Tuesday morning about 10 o'clock. Mr. Hayes had the bull tied in a pen and was awaiting the arrival of a man who was to take the bull away. Entering the pen the bull broke loose, knocked Mr. Hayes down and trampled him. He died almost immediately. A prominent and, life long citizen of the Longstreet Community, where he farmed and for a number of years operated a large and successful general mercantile business. Funeral services were held this morning (Thursday) at 10:30 from the Ebenezer Church with Rev. Charles Landers and Rev. William Snellgrove officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Church Cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home of Elba directing. Surviving; are his widow, Mrs. Martha Hayes, a daughter, Mrs. Euna Ziglar, of Jack; and three sons, Roy Hayes, of Enterprise; Rex Hayes of Ozark; and Howard Hayes of Birmingham. *Earley R. Hayes, b.July 27, 1877 d. Aug.4, 1953,buried Longstreet Comm.Cem. Wife Martha E., b.Mar. 1884, d. Mar.14, 1956.
