Steagall, Jr., were held here at the M. E. Church on last Thursday afternoon, Rev. S. U. Turnipseed, pastor, assisted by Dr. D. P. Slaughter, former pastor, officiating. The large auditorium was crowded with sorrowing friends and heart broken relatives, attesting the love and esteem in which this splendid young man was held. An appropriate song service closed with prayer and an eulogy of the life of the deceased concluded the impressive services at the church. Interment took place in the city cemetery in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing friends and loved ones. Twelve heart broken classmates and fraternity brothers acted as pallbearers; Norton Christopher, Hilton McKee, Robert Albriton, Don Sessions, Hugh Dowling, W. F. Adams, Hilton O'Neil, Robt. Reynolds, Dan Hillman, William Albriton, George Byers and Arthur Rails. Porter was a young man of sterling character, clean and exemplary habits, possessed of a pleasing and affable disposition and was a friend t0 every one who knew him. During his two years as a student of the University of Alabama he became one of the most popular students on the campus, and was held in the same high esteem by the citizens of Tuscaloosa as he was at home. The writer, a boyhood friend of the deceased, together with the entire community mourns with the sorely bereaved father, sisters and other relatives in the untimely death of this lovable young man. The abundance of floral offerings of rare and beautiful design attested the wide popularity of the deceased and the profound sympathy of the many friends of the family.
