Wednesday morning, March 18, 1885 Page Three In Memoriam Jackson – Died, at the residence of Mr. Kinyon Strickland, on the morning of March 8, 1885, Mr. Alex T. Jackson. Indeed a good man has gone. May his past conduct serve as a guide to the living, and his manly traits be perpetuated by the youth with whom he was associated. He had no relatives in this country, but his death will send sorrow to many hearts. He was a model young man, and loved by all who knew him. In feel satisfied that he is now basking in the beams of endless sunshine. In the language of another, “Alas! We cannot lengthen the tiny thread on which our mortal existence hangs.” “Ah! Am I born to die, To lay this body down, And must my trembling spirit fly Into a world unknown?” “How careful then ought I to be who such a strict account must give of my behavior here.” Tis hard to part with those we love, but we reverently bow to the decrees of Him who doeth all things well.
