Mr. Parker was a Confederate Veteran and his passing removes from our midst a distinguished and lovable character. The deceased was born in Russell County, October 27, 1844, but was a citizen of Dale County for almost three quarters of a century. He was a prosperous and successful farmer until feeble health made it necessary for him to retire from active work. The deceased is survived by his widow, five sons and one daughter, Mrs. Jack Cumbie, besides a number of grand children and great grand children. Funeral services will be held at Hopeville Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The Star extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved." Joseph Parker (Oct 27, 1844-Jan 18, 1933), son of David and Elizabeth Andrews Hays Parker. Served in CSA -- Co. D., 57th Alabama Infantry.
