Wednesday, March 4, 1885 Page Third In Memoriam In sadness we announce the death of Mrs. Fannie Stokes, wife of Mr. J.W. Stokes, of Haw Ridge, and daughter of Mr. H.H. Mizell. This mournful event transpired at her home, 3 p.m. Friday, 20th ult. Although she had been suffering for some months and her death seemed inevitable, yet when it came to pass many hearts were filled with sorrow and many eyes filled with tears. However, it affords relief from the bitterness of grief to know that she was so well prepared to meet the grim monster Death. She really died shouting victory over death and hell. Her last words were in praising and glorifying God her Savior. Her pure and sweet life gave assurance of triumph in death. She was pure in childhood, lovely in womanhood, a faithful Christian, a true member of the M.E. Church South, an affectionate daughter and sister, and a devoted wife and mother. She was buried in Haw Ridge graveyard Sunday morning, February 22, the Rev. Angus Dowling conducting the solemn and tearful service. A large assembly of weeping relatives and friends were present.
