One or more blankets, and other things. Being on the go most of the time and sometimes in tight places, we threw away everything that we could dispense with, and by Oct. 1862 and after that time, each man that stayed with the regiment had but the cloths he had on, a canteen to carry waterin, a haversack to carry provisions in, blankets and dogfly. The officers carried, belts, swoards (sic) and scabbords, and each man carried, a cattridge (sic) box with 40 rounds, belt, cap box, bayonet with scabbord and rifle. Some of us usualy had an extra pair of hose, and wrighting (sic) material. We carried no knapsacks after the fall of 1862. If we saw a_ man with a knapsack we knew he was a recruit.
