that  we could not get to them.
  We stayed there for thirty minutes or more and being no troops to our right 
they came around our right and were getting behind us, then we bore to the left 
and got out as best we could. As we got back to a depression about the center 
of this second valley, someone said liedown, we did so and while lieing there 
our color bearer Neal GODWIN said 
“ dinged if they ar’nt charging us”, and so they were and pretty soon we had to 
run back up the slope, But we met CLEBOURNS old briggad, afterwards GOVANS 
briggad and they made them run again.
  It was nearly sundown.
  We got our woonded boys together at the dry gully near the center of the 
first valley, carried wheat straw for them to lie upon, carried them water in 
our cedar canteens, from away under
