then we went on a run and a continuous yell to their works, but we abates, that 
is small trees had been cut and drug to just in front of their works with the 
tops toward us and the branches sharpened, I was woounded in getting through 
the abates, by the time we got to their works our ranks were so thined that our 
men could not get over, many were shot in the attempt among them Neal GODWIN

need any collors the regiment being almost annihilated, night came on and those 
of the regiment not to badley hurt slipt out from behind their embankment and 
run the gauntlet to the rear, the yankees left for Nashville in the night
