  The Army went on to Nashville.
  Quartermaster Jeter McCARTY helped me on one of his empty wagons that was 
returning to Columbia Where I was put in the hospital (female academy)
  The morning after the battle at Nashville we that could stand were given two 
or three lbs. Of flour and about a lb. Of beef and told to get south.
  I had two crutches I had made of boards, I could not keep up but took my time 
Near Pulaski I got on a wagon and rode to Corinth Miss, and on cars to 
Demopolis Ala.  By boat to hospital at Montgomery where I got a ten day 
furlough home.
