Thacker Photo can be seen at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/dale/photos/gph1397veterans.jpg Image file size: 46.1 Kb Veterans Memorial Bridge – 1921 This reinforced Concrete River Bridge, Thought to be the first in Alabama, was erected over Pea River in 1920-1921 at a cost of 92,108.97. It was Dedecated on August 3, 1921, As a Memorial to the 57 men from Dale County who lost their lives in World War 1. Engineers were METCHAM, KELLER, SMITH, and LAND. County Officals were WINDHAM, SESSIONS, ROBERTS, MULLINS, and ARCHER. In 1977, Through the efforts of the Dale County Historical Society the Veterans Memorial Bridge was placed on the Alabama Regester of Landmarks and Hertiage by the Alabama Historical Commission. Erected 1979. Additional Comments: The Marker is in bad shape, needs to be painted so that it would be readable in a picture.
