Dean saw a need for a place to worship and donated the land for a church and a cemetery. This was lacated where the Bethel Assembly of God Church now Stands. The money for the building was raised by public subscription and men gave their time to build it. The building was one room about 50 feet by 35 feet. Included was the belfry which housed the bell that now sits in front of the present church. The orginal pulpit and table are in the present building and are being used for the Centenniel Celebration. The church was dedicated in May, 1892 with the first pastor, Rev. stout, preaching the dedicatory message. After the consolidation of Charlton & Ariostos, founding the new town of Ariton, the Ladies Aid Society bought a lot on Main Street in town for $125.00 on which to build a new church. The Ariton Baptist Church was completed in 1916 while Rev. E. G Fenn was pastor. Mr. J. Matt Williams purchased the pews for this building. After 52 years of steady growth there was a need for a new building. The Aldridge lot, containing four acres and 200 feet frontage on Atlantic Street was selected and approved by the church in April, 1966. The first worship service in the new building was a Wednesday night prayer service on July 9, 1967. The first Sunday service was held on July 13 with Brother J. W. Richardson, missionary to Nigeria, delivering the message. Futher services were held in the old church until September 24, 1967 when the new church was completed and approved. The dedication service was held November 5, 1967 while Rev. Ben Amlong was interim pastor. The pastor serving Ariton Baptist is Rev. and Mrs. Gary Carter. above information taken frcm The Ariton Baptist Church CENTENNNIAL CELEBRATION News Letter May 19, 1991. 1991- Ariton Alliance ( the Newspaper was a Monthly Newspaper, Established 1991, by Dr.Charles W.
