Abstracted CGT. Air Show, Monument Dedication To 81st "Wildcat" Div. Hi-light Armed Forces Day FORT RUCKER,Ala. - Several thousdand spectators Watched Army Aviation put its best foot forward here Saturday in a ''Power for Peace" demonstration that showed some of the Army"s newest helicopters Bleachers Were packed under the sunny skies and a group of Gold Star Mothers anf Fathers sat in a reserved section. Immediately following the air show and static display, the activities moved to Center Headquarters where a marker was dedicated in memory of 633 fallen members of the famed 81st Infantry "Wildcat" Division. The Unit was the First stationed here during World War II. During a series of hot engagentments during the war in the South Pacific, it suffered 633 fatalities, many from this area. On hand for the dedication was Major General Carl Sutherland, commander of the 81st which is now in reserve, and Brigadier General Marcus B. Bell, retired of Columbus, Ga. W.W. McSwean of Ozark unvieled the five foot monument. His son Sergeant Robert Lewis McSwean, was killed in combant with the 81st. Other former division members came from as far away as Oakland, California, and Phoenix, Arizona, for the dedication. In the afternoon, the vistors went to Lake Tholocco for a barbecue sponsored by the local chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army, where they enjoyed a restful lunch and discussed their modern Army.
