R. Levy 1919- 1920 James Richard Levy was born January 22, 1861, Wauchulla County, Flordia, son of John Washington and Mary Caledonia (Hawse) Levy, He was educated in the country schools Wauchulla County, studied law on his own, and was admitted to the Alabama Bar Associaton. He went into business in Midand City and served there as Justice of the peace and Mayor. He was elected Clerk of Circuit Court in 1902, and moved to Ozark where he held the Clerk's office for 18 years. He was a steward in the Methodist Church, where he taught a Sunday school class for many years, A Royal Arch Mason, A Shriner, and a Woodsman of the World. On December 24, 1886, he married Missouri Catherine Riley of Echo. He was the father of 8 children; two sons who died in infancy, Annie, Maude, Iva, James Richard, Jr., Wayne and Jake.
