Stokes 1921- 1926 Charles Oscar Stokes, son of William B. and Eliza Jane (Beasley) Stokes, was born on December 22, 1891, at Enterprise, Alabama. His grandparents were Major and Emeline Stokes and Daniel and Eliza Beasley, all of Dale County. Mr. Stokes was educated in the public schools of Enterprise and Ozark and graduated from Dale County High School in 1909. He received the B.A. degree from the University of Alabama in 1912, studied law at the University of Michigan and received his degree in that profession from the University of Alabama in 1915. He practiced law in Ozark, served as Mayor from 1921 to 1926, and represented the 23rd Senatorial District in the Alabama Legislature in 1927. He is a Democrat, Methodist, Mason, Shriner, Praetorian, Woodman of the World, and is a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. On November 1, 1916 in Enterprise, he married Willie Belle Sessions, daughter of H. M. and Willie Sessions of Ozark. In May this year Mr. Stokes was recognized by the Alabama League of Municipalities for 48 years of service to Ozark as city attorney, and August 20 he was commended by the Ozark Production Credit Association for his service. He has been associated with the P. C. A. since its organization, serving as a representative, director, president, and chairman of the board.
